In a disconcerting act on the sixth anniversary of the dismantling of Article 370 by the BJP government, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department under the Lieutenant Governor has banned 25 books by well-acclaimed authors written on various issues of Kashmir.

The administration has declared the publication and circulation of 25 books as forfeited under Section 98 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, citing their alleged role in propagating false narratives and secessionism—thereby posing threats to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Notably, the Supreme Court cited A.G. Noorani’s work ‘The Kashmir Dispute’ in the Article 370 case.
