Arundhati Roy Slams Indian Govt Response To US-Israel Attack On Iran

Arundhati Roy, the well-acclaimed Indian author and the Pulitzer Prize winner, was in New Delhi on Monday to discuss her memoir, “Mother Mary comes to me.” During the discussion, Roy responded to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran war in West Asia and India’s response to it.

While calling upon the Indian government’s response, the author of Mother Mary said, “I am ashamed of how gutless, spineless our government has been.” She voiced solidarity with Iran and called the attacks unprovoked, and highlighted India’s ties with the US and Israel, like Modi’s Netahnayhu meeting and trade deal.

“I stand with Iran. Unequivocally. Any regimes that need changing, including the US, Israel, and ours, need to be changed by the people, not by some bloated, lying, cheating, greedy, resource-grabbing, bomb-dropping imperial power”, Arundhati said.

“Iran is standing up to them while India cowers”, she said. “Long ago, we were a poor country of very poor people, but we had pride, we had dignity. Today, we are a rich country with very poor, unemployed people who are fed on a diet of hatred, poison, and falsehoods instead of real food. We have lost pride, we have lost dignity. We have lost courage, except in our movies”, she added.
