Former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was shifted to Rajkot Central Jail from Palanpur District Jail on September 1 following an order from the Jamnagar Sessions Court.

Sanjiv has been serving consecutive prison sentences in cases related to custodial death and planting of drugs. Several Human Rights organizations, politicians, and civil rights activists had earlier come forward urging to grant immediate bail to Sanjiv Bhatt.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Friday posted his concern regarding the IPS officer following his recent jail transfer. In his post on X, he stated that Sanjiv Bhatt has been wrongly framed by the BJP government for a crime he has never committed.

Highlighting the Honorable Judiciary’s wordings “Bail is a Rule Jail is an exception”, he asked why he had been denied bail. Digvijay Singh further urged the Narendra Modi government not to stoop to such a level of vindictiveness. “We stand with Sanjiv Shweta and family. We demand @narendramodi @PMOIndia please don’t stoop to such level of vindictiveness.”

Digvijay Singh’s post came in response to Shweta Sanjiv Bhatt, wife of Sanjiv Bhatt’s post on X. “Today marks 2193 days since Sanjiv Bhatt has been languishing in Jail for a crime he did not commit,” she wrote on X.

Recalling the day on which her beloved husband was taken from them, she noted that it has been 6years since his “wrongful incarceration”. “Today marks 6 years of his wrongful incarceration by a regime so terrified of his truth that it continues to resort to extreme, oppressive measures to crush his spirit and silence him, all because he dared to stand up against this dictatorial regime.”

Shweta Bhatt claimed the transfer of Sanjiv Bhatt to another prison which is infamous for housing hardened criminals and terror convicts is a deliberate and calculated attempt to put Sanjiv’s life and safety in grave danger.

As he completes his six years in jail, Shweta pledging not to remain silent anymore, calls for an immediate action. “The time to act is now!!  Let us demand justice for Sanjiv Bhatt—a symbol of courage and integrity in a time when both are under siege,” she wrote.

Reluctant to back down, Shweta concluded her post by stating that her battle for justice will continue.
