The Lok Sabha on Monday witnessed feisty address of Rahul Gandhi, the newly appointed Leader of Opposition. In his first speech, Congress leader launched scathing attack on the Modi-led BJP government on several issues including dividing people on community lines, plight of NEET students, situation in Manipur, and controversial Agniveer scheme.
The heated debates ensued when Rahul Gandhi accused ruling BJP of spreading “violence, hatred and lies”. The remark has created great uproar on the treasury benches of the parliament and PM Modi stood up and said, “Calling the entire Hindu community violent is a very serious matter”. To this, he promptly retorted that, “Modi, BJP and the RSS don’t represent all Hindus. The BJP does not have a monopoly over Hindu religion.” Though the Congress leader launched many sharp attacks in his maiden speech, where the “Hindu remark” is just one, it opened praise and criticism.

Reacting to Gandhi’s remark, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called the Opposition leader “immature”.
“We thought that Rahul Gandhi would mature after becoming the Leader of the Opposition. But I feel sorry to say that only a person with an immature mind would make such remarks. Hindu is the core society of India and the soul of this country,” the Hindustan Times quotes as he is saying.

On the other hand, regarding Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the parliament opposition MPs responded in support of the former, extended his thoughts with clarity especially on the “Hindu remark”. SP MP Awadhesh Prasad told ANI, “..He did not say anything about Hindus. He talked about the mindset of BJP, the mindset and ideology of RSS. His statement was not for Hindus, it was for the people of BJP, RSS…”

Similarly, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut backed Rahul Gandhi and commented that the leaders of the INDIA alliance is not aligning with the fake Hindutva portrayed by the BJP. Adding further, Raut said: “He did not say anything wrong about the Hindus. Those who consider themselves Hindus should hear again that Rahul Gandhiji had said that ‘Hindutva’ is a much wider term and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won’t understand this,” ANI reports.
Addressing Congress leader’s speech on social media platform X, socio-political activist and columnist Sudheendra Kulkarni wrote: “Today’s was your [Rahul Gandhi] most effective speech in Parliament.”
