Mallikarjune Kharge Blasts Narendra Modi’s ‘Polarising Attempts’ During Elections

Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts at polarisation during the last general elections.

He also referred to the BJP leaders’ statements during the elections that they needed 400 plus seats to change the constitution. He said, people of the country had taught them a lesson this time and shattered their arrogance.

The Congress president said, the same people who would deride the alliance politics, were now dependent on their allies and their arrogance had exploded.

Speaking during the thanks motion on President’s address, Kharge said, it was the government statement and had failed to address the issues as how to tackle and handle the challenges facing the country. He said the address lacked both the vision and the direction.

The Congress president in his characteristic way, picked up one by one the failures of the government including the frequent bridge collapses, paper leaks and terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

He pointed out, how Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to stoke communal fires and distorted the Congress manifesto. He referred to Modi’s claims that if the Congress came to power, it will take away their wealth and distribute among the minorities. He took a dig at the Prime Minister while referring to his campaign speeches saying that the Congress will take away the Mangalsutra of Hindu women.

He alleged that Modi had a typical way of diverting the public attention from important issues like rising prices and unemployment by raking up divisive and sectarian issues like stealing of buffaloes. Instead of listing to people, Modi makes them to listen his own ‘mann ki baat’, he remarked in a jibe at Modi.

Taking a dig at the BJP’s slogan of 400 plus seats, Kharge alleged, it was sheer arrogance of the party and also their intention to change the country’s constitution, which was duly rejected by the people of the country. He said, so much so, the same people had started referring to and mentioning the constitution every now and then, although some of them still have a problem with the slogan of ‘Jai Sanvidaan’.

Underlining the need for social justice in the country, Kharge observed that there were people in the country who were opposed to it. He said, that ideology and mindset need to be completely uprooted from the country.

In reference to Modi’s claims of being alone enough for the entire opposition, he said, these elections had proved that the constitution was over and above everything else. “Ek akela par aaj kitne log bhaari hai, election ne dikha diya ki desh ka sanvidhan aur janata sab par bhaari hai,” he remarked.

He said that the people of the country had broken the arrogance of the BJP and the Prime Minister in particular who would often claim to single handedly handle the opposition by repeatedly saying, “ek akela sabb pe bari”.

Referring to the recent paper leak reports in NEET examinations, he pointed out, instead of taking corrective measures the government had initially denied that paper leaks had taken place. He said, during the last ten years, papers were leaked seventy times.

Kharge reiterated his party’s allegation that the exit polls were manipulated and investors were made to suffer a loss of over Rs 30 lakh crores. He pointed out how the Prime Minister and the Home Minister asked people to invest in stocks which they did and suffered huge losses.

He alleged that the government had unilaterally and arbitrarily moved the statues of freedom fighters and relocated them at a different place without any consultations with anyone.
