UP Woman Dies By Suicide, Police Probe Dowry Harassment Claims

A woman allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws’ home in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, amid claims of dowry harassment. The police have filed an FIR against her husband and in-laws following a complaint from the victim’s family. Muskan and Chand got married in 2018.

According to neighbours, the couple frequently fought as her husband was reportedly upset over her habit of posting reels on Instagram.

Muskan enjoyed creating and sharing reels on Instagram, a habit that Chand disapproved of. The FIR alleges that Chand and his family harassed Muskan for dowry and threatened to throw her out of the house.

Muskan had called her parents home, but by the time they arrived, she was found dead.

“We received information about a married woman who had died by suicide. A case has been registered based on the complaint from the victim’s family,” police officer Sanjana Singh told NDTV. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and further investigations are ongoing.
