Cheistha Kochhar: She Was Bright, Brilliant And Brave, Says Amitabh Kant On Young Indian Scholar Died In UK

Cheistha Kochhar, a promising young scholar and former Senior Advisor at The National Behavioural Insights Unit of India in NITI Aayog, died in a devastating traffic incident while cycling in London. Amitabh Kant, Sherpa G20 India and former CEO of NITI Aayog, expressed his grief over the untimely demise of Kochhar, whom he had worked closely with during her tenure at the institution.

Mr Kant reminisced about Kochhar’s contributions, particularly her involvement in the LIFE programme at NITI Aayog, where she was part of the Nudge unit. Kochhar’s dedication and academic prowess were evident as she pursued her Ph.D. in behavioural science at the London School of Economics (LSE). Kant described her as “bright, brilliant, and brave,” highlighting her vibrant spirit and zest for life.


She was hit by a garbage truck March 19, according to reports.

Prior to her role at NITI Aayog, Kochhar served as the Associate Director at the Centre for Social and Behaviour Change. Her academic journey included significant milestones, such as being a Teaching Assistant for Strategic Leadership in Management Networks at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business in 2000. She obtained her MA in International Development and Policy (MAIDP) from the University of Chicago, further enhancing her expertise in her chosen field.

Kochhar’s educational background showcased her commitment to intellectual growth and interdisciplinary learning. She completed a Postgraduate Program in Liberal Arts from Ashoka University, India, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Mathematics from Delhi University.
