As India celebrated its 78th Independence Day on August 15, Thursday, the top Indian Olympians took to X and expressed their emotions for the nation.
India’s first-ever Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, who became the first Indian athlete to be awarded the Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last week, asked the citizens to honour the freedom struggle which brought the country together and advised them to keep moving forward to achieve greater heights.
“Let’s honour the journey that brought us freedom and the spirit that keeps us moving forward. Together, let’s build a future filled with hope, opportunity, and a shared passion to achieve greatness. Jai Hind!,” Bindra said.
Neeraj Chopra, who brought the first Olympic gold medal in track and field for the country at Tokyo 2020, and added a silver at the Paris 2024 said: “Best wishes for Independence Day. Jai Hind!”
Double Olympic bronze medallist and India Men’s Hockey Team’s custodian PR Sreejesh, who recently announced his retirement, was a part of the 78th Independence Day celebration at the Red Fort, New Delhi along with his teammate Jarmanpreet Singh and Paris 2024 equestrian Anush Agarwalla.
“Proud Indian 🇮🇳 Wishing you all a memorable Independence Day! May the spirit of freedom and patriotism fill your heart with pride. Jai hind 💪,” Sreejesh said on X.
“Happy independence day 🇮🇳🇮🇳 #IndependenceDay2024 #Redfort #IndependenceDay #India,” Jarmanpreet said.
“Wishing everyone a very #HappyIndependenceDay! Honoured to be a part of the celebrations at Red Fort. Jai Hind 🇮🇳,” Agarwalla posted on X.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, one of the greatest track and field athlete to represent the nation, asked the citizens to recall the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and uphold the integrity of the nation.
“Wishes to all my fellow Indians on our 78th Independence Day! As we hoist our flag against the free sky, let us remember the sacrifices made by our freedom leaders and promise to uphold the integral values that stand for Bharat! One nation marching towards prosperity and success!”
