Afghanistan Cricket Board To Retain Mirwais Ashraf As Chairman

Mirwais Ashraf is set to be retained as the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), as per a report in Cricbuzz.

Ashraf will continue to be at the helm of ACB for another three years. He was appointed as the ACB chairman in 2021 with his maiden tenure set to end in August 2023.

“Due to his performance for the last three years, the Taliban government extended Mirwais Ashraf’s new term as the chairman of Afghanistan Cricket Board for three more years,” said the ACB official.

“Look stability is key to our success and we try to value it,” he said.

“During the last three years we had one chairman, one CEO, and one coach and we changed our captain only once as we feel that if we want to develop as a cricketing nation we need to put a major focus on stability and don’t try to go for chopping and changing,” he said.

The decision to extend his contract was taken by Afghanistan’s Patron-in-chief Mullah Muhammad Hassan, who is also the Prime Minister of the country. He was initially appointed as the head of the board and later elected as the chairman.

The Annual General Meeting for the next term is set to take place in December where he will be favoured by the Patron-in-chief to retain his role.

The election will take place as per the ACB constitution and international standards where the board members are set to vote transparently.
