New Zealand batter Amelia Kerr hit a delivery bowled outside off-stump from India’s spinner Deepti Sharma towards long-off in the final delivery of the 14th over.
After hitting the ball towards Harmanpreet Kaur, she comfortably took a single, with the umpire returning the hat to the bowler in the meantime. The Team India captain meanwhile collected the ball but Sophie Devine was quick to look for another run and pushed hard for it with Kerr being run out on the striker’s end.
The Kaur-led side appealed for the run-out but umpires Anna Harris and Jacqueline Williams ruled it as a ‘dead ball’, leaving the Team India camp agitated.
India women’s team head coach Amol Muzumdar along with a support staff quickly walked out of the dug-out to have a chat with the T20 World Cup 2024 support. But to no avail.
New Zealand was awarded one run with the match advancing to the next over. However, it exposed an umpiring gaffe, with the White Ferns captain Devine taking strike in the 15th over after Kerr crossed for a single.
Meanwhile, India got rid of Kerr in the second delivery of the 15th over, through an full length delivery outside off stump from medium-pacer Renuka Singh.
