India has made its mark at the Asian Games 2023 bagging 33 medals so far. Shooters once again broke the world record to clinch the men’s 50m rifle gold medal. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kushale and Akhil Sheoran won the gold medal. A total of five gold has come from shooting and one each from cricket and equestrian. India attained eight medals on the previous day to boost to number 4 position in the medal standings.

India opened its account in athletics on the first day of track and field. Kiran Baliyan bagged country’s first medal in women’s shot put after 72 years wait.

The 24-year-old threw the iron ball to a distance of 17.36m in her third attempt which then led to history. Baliyan, thus, became only the second Indian to win a medal in women”s shot put in Asian Games after Barbara Webster.

India reaches finals in the squash team event after defeating defending champions Malaysia. India will face Pakistan in the finals.

Nikhat Zareen knocked out her opponent in just 53 seconds and now sails into semifinals. The boxer assured a medal for India and have secured Paris Olympics quota.

It was mixed results for Indian badminton. The men’s team, featuring Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen, secured their first Asiad medal since 1986. However, the PV Sindhu-led women’s team crashed out in the quarter-finals against Thailand.

India”s Chess Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa began with a victory in men”s team chess against Batchuluun Tsegmed from Mongolia.

Shooting

  • India”s trio of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar in the men”s 10m air rifle.
  • Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal continued India”s shooting success with gold in the Men”s 10m Air Pistol Team event.
  • Sift Kaur Samra sets a world record.
  • Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan in the Women”s 25m Pistol Team event.
  • Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran secured India”s 5th shooting gold.
  • Palak Gulia in women”s 10m air pistol.

Cricket:

  • India secured its maiden Asian Games gold after defeating Sri Lanka.

Equestrian:

  • Anush Agarwalla, Hriday Vipul Chheda, Sudipti Hajela and Divyakriti Singh earns gold after 41 years wait.
