India women”s team defeated Hong Kong 3-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 for the first time on Friday. India will take on the winner of the contest between China and Japan in the semi-final.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu led the charge for India through a favorable quarter-final draw. Earlier, India had upset China on Tuesday to top Group W. The premier Indian shuttler made a strong start against Lo Sin Yan Happy but fell short in the second game. She, however, regrouped herself to clinch a 21-7, 16-21, 21-12 win and give India the lead.

The women”s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa continued on the momentum to get the better of the World No. 18 combination of Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam 21-10, 21-14 to put India within reach of the semi-finals.
India”s quest to the final was then made successful by Ashmita Chaliha”s 21-12, 21-13 win over Yeung Sum Yee in quarter-finals. The semi-finals berth assured India of a spot in the 2024 Uber Cup.
Meanwhile, the India men”s team will take on Japan in the quarter-final clash later today.
