Famous badminton player and Olympian PV Sindhu and Venkatta Datta Sai were married in Udaipur last evening. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat shared a photo from the ceremony.

The first glimpse of their wedding shows the ace Indian shuttler and Datta dressed in traditional wedding attire, surrounded by close friends and family.

Sharing the beautiful photo, Shekhawat wrote, “Pleased to have attended the wedding ceremony of our Badminton Champion Olympian PV Sindhu with Venkatta Datta Sai in Udaipur last evening and conveyed my wishes & blessings to the couple for their new life ahead.”

The wedding festivities included a sangeet ceremony on December 20 followed by haldi, pellilkuthuru, and mehendi ceremonies.

“The two families knew each other but it was only a month ago that everything was finalized. This was the only possible window as her schedule will be hectic from January,” the two-time Olympic medallist’s father, PV Ramana had told PTI.

Venkatta Datta Sai is the executive director of Posidex Technologies, a Hyderabad-based firm. Following their wedding, the couple will host a grand reception in Hyderabad on December 24 to celebrate the occasion with their extended family and friends. He is the son of GT Venkateshwar Rao, managing director at Posidex who was also part of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS).

Sindhu recently ended a long title drought with a victory at Lucknow’s Syed Modi International on Sunday. Regarded as one of India’s greatest athletes with five world championship medals, including a gold in 2019, besides a silver and bronze at the Olympic Games, Sindhu won back-to-back Olympic medals at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 and achieved a career-highworld ranking of No. 2 in 2017.

PV Sindhu now ranks 18th in the badminton ranking.
