Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu was left wanting after a narrow defeat against Thailand”s Supanida Katethong in the women”s singles quarterfinals of the Madrid Spain Masters Super 300 badminton tournament on Friday.

Sindhu displayed her resilience to recover from a 4-8 deficit and saved multiple game points to clinch the opening game. But she failed to convert it into a victory as the sixth-seeded Thai registered a 24-26, 21-17, 22-20 in an evenly poised contest.

Soon after registering the loss, the Hyderabad shuttler lost her calm and smashed her racquet on the court. She was reprimanded for the conduct as the chair umpire showed her a yellow card.

Sindhu leads the head-to-head record 5-3 against World No.17 Supanida. The match was a physical as well as skill challenge for the Sindhu.

The premier Indian shuttler began on a slow note but she rallied back to keep herself in the game. There were ample of rallies on display between the two shuttlers with the momentum changing from time to time.

The change of ends didn”t change the intensity of the match as the two went hammer and tongs. In the decider, Sindhu recovered to take a lead but the Thai reeled off five points to clinch the match.
