Disney+ Hotstar has set a new record for live streaming viewership with the India-Pakistan match in the ICC Cricket World Cup on Saturday. The match garnered a record viewership of 3.5 crore, making it the highest viewership in the history of live streaming. This surpasses Jio Cinema’s record of 3.2 crore views for the IPL finale between Chennai Super Kings and Gujrat Titans.
The Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan had a peak concurrency of 2.8 crore, while the semi-final match between India and New Zealand of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 garnered live viewership of 2.53 crore.
The viewership of live telecast of India-Pakistan match on Star Sports will be released only a week later by the television audience measurement body Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). Disney+ Hotstar is the sole broadcaster for both linear and digital platforms.
Leading multiplex operator PVR INOX had telecasted the India-Pak match at its selected cinema halls, where viewers flocked in large numbers. Majority of the screens were fully sold out.
