Ederson: The Man Who Holds Record Of Most Assists In Premiere League's History
Manchester City’s goalkeeper Ederson, with seven assists, now holds the record for the most assists in Premier League history. He added his name to the history books after he had set up Omar Marmoush for Manchester City’s opening goal against Newcastle United.
The assist was not just the fourth of the season, but it was also the Brazil international’s seven ever since joining the club in 2018, more than any other player in the Premier League. He has surpassed the previous record of Paul Robinson, who had five assists in total. Other notable footballers with high assist counts include Pepe Reina and David Seaman, each with four assists.

Though the goalkeeper had received some recent criticism for his goal-saving errors, he had wowed his fans with his playmaker display against the Eagles. Ederson’s count of assists this season is equal to the third-best assist tally of all time by goalkeepers combined in the Premier League. Along with the Brazilian, Bart Verbruggen, Mark Flekken, Bernd Leno, and Jordan Pickford are the other shot-stoppers who have provided one assist each this campaign.
However, Ederson has faced a mix of highs and lows during this season. Though in the recent match he had provided a remarkable assist against Crystal Palace, his errors during the game forced him to leave the pitch injured. And earlier in the season, in the Champions League match against Real Madrid, he had struggled against Madrid’s forwards. Additionally, his overall form had been under scrutiny, with discussions about his potential replacement by Stefan Ortega.
According to Football Transfers, Ederson is attracting interest from his former club Benfica, eight years after he moved the opposite way. Interestingly, the report also claims that his replacement could come directly from Benfica, after City set their sights on Anatoliy Trubin.
