Lancashire batter Harry Singh, son of former India fast bowler RP Singh Senior, was introduced as a substitute fielder during the first Test between England and Sri Lanka at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
The Lancashire batter made an early impression as a fielder on Day 1 of the opening Test after being selected alongside his compatriots Charlie Barnard and Kesh Fonseka for 12th-man duty in the Ollie Pope-led side. His father RP Singh Senior had represented India in two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia in 1986 and represented Uttar Pradesh in First-Class cricket from 1983 to 1996.
The opening batter stepped into the field to replace Harry Brook and returned in the post-lunch session after the hosts chose to bowl. He was born on June 16, 2004 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England after his father moved to the United Kingdom (UK) post-retirement, to take up coaching assignments with Lancashire County Club and the England Cricket Board (ECB).
“I started playing cricket at the age of four, joined Lancashire’s pathway system at eight and have been on the Lancs Academy since I was 15 – so it has been a long journey for me to reach this point,” he had told.
Harry, 20, was born in Lucknow and made his List-A debut in Lancashire earlier in 2024, featuring in all seven matches. He scored only 87 runs in these matches at an average of 12.42 with a strike rate of 64.44.
He had started playing cricket at the age of four and before landing his first professional contract for Lancashire.
