Former India football coach Igor Stimac has approached the FIFA Football Tribunal to seek compensation till June 2026 from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for breach of contract.
As per a report in the Hindustan Times, all the relevant documents pertaining to the matter have been filed on FIFA’s official website. It is the first time that an Indian football coach has challenged his sacking at FIFA and sought compensation.
“It’s all in the hands of my lawyer,” said Stimac on Monday.
“The case is very simple so I am confident about the final verdict.”
“Our position is very simple. My client’s contract was terminated from the position of the head coach without just cause. The compensation offered to the head coach by the national association is not acceptable and so we have approached the FIFA Football Tribunal,” Davor Radic, attorney at law, who is representing Stimac told HT.
The FIFA Football Tribunal has three chambers: the Dispute Resolution Chamber, the Players’ Status Chamber (PSC), and the Agents Chamber.
Stimac’s stance against AIFF comes after he was sacked last June despite holding a contract till June 2026. The governing body of Indian football offered him three months’ salary as a part of compensation which was not accepted by the Croatian.
The Croatian had earlier said that he would approach the global governing body of the sport if the compensation was not paid as per contract. He has to be paid $30,000 per month till January 2025 and $40,000 thereafter till June 2026, as per the latest contract.
