Liverpool, United Kingdom: On Saturday evening, Indian women’s boxer Jaismine Lamboria bagged a gold medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025, as Liverpool witnessed a landmark moment for Indian boxing. The 24-year-old boxer defeated Poland’s Julia Szeremeta in the 57kg category final.

The Indian boxer successfully confronted the Olympic silver medalist from Paris 2024, after Szeremeta began the match at a furious pace, landing counter-attacking blows to the backdrop of cries of ‘Julia’ from the many locally-based Polish fans in the women’s 57kg category at the World Boxing Championships.

There were a sizable contingent of Polish fans cheering for Julia as she battled hard to box in close quarters and landed a cracking final blow in the last second. Jaismine, however, began to dominate the game from the second round onwards. She used her height advantage to control the contest and eventually secured a 4-1 victory.

After clinching victory, Jaismine said that her feelings cannot be expressed, adding that she is super happy to be a world champion. “After my early exit at Paris 2024, I went away and improved my technique physically and mentally.” This is the result of consistent work for a year. With the victory, Jaismine became the ninth Indian boxer to be crowned world champion, joining the illustrious list featuring six-time winner Mary Kom (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2018), two-time winner Nikhat Zareen (2022 and 2023), Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006), Lekha KC (2006), Nitu Ghanghas (2023), Lovlina Borgohain (2023) and Saweety Boora (2023).
