Former India batter Ambati Rayudu has slammed five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians for mistreating their ex-captain Rohit Sharma.
Ahead of the IPL 2024, Sharma was stripped of his captaincy as the Mumbai Indians decided to pass the baton to Hardik Pandya after completing his trade from Mumbai Indians. The decision left fans divided and Rayudu believes that any franchise would love to have a captain like Rohit and he wouldn”t mind moving to a franchise which treats him better.
“It’s Rohit’s call at the end of the day. He can go wherever he wants to go. All the teams would love to have him as a captain for sure. I am sure he will go to a franchise that maybe treats him better than what has happened here,” Rayudu said on a Star Sports show.
Social media has been abuzz ever since Pandya was traded from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians and handed over the captaincy role. The newly appointed captain has drawn a lot of flak from Rohit Sharma fans and was booed by the Gujarat Titans fans in Ahmedabad during his team’s IPL opener.
Mumbai Indians became one of the most successful franchises under the captaincy of Sharma. He led the franchise to five IPL triumphs. However, under Pandya, the Mumbai franchise have made a poor start as they lost their first-three matches before clinching a victory against Delhi Capitals in their fourth match.
