The Board of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) is set to announce the remaining schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 which got underway with the inaugural contest between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday.
As per multiple media reports, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host two playoffs while the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the final on May 26.
“The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year”s defending champions — in this case Chennai Super Kings,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.
The report suggests that the Indian Cricket Board has finalized the schedule, keeping in mind the dates for the general election, and it will be released shortly.
“The Election Commission of India announced the schedule of General Elections so we now know the exact dates. The work is underway on the remainder fixtures and we are reworking some fixtures from the first draft to avoid clashes with polling dates,” IPL GC chairman Arun Dhumal had told News18.
Dhumal had also reiterated that the Indian Cricket Board never thought away moving the lucrative tournament due to the dates of general elections clashing with the tournament.
The BCCI had earlier released the fixtures for the first two weeks of the IPL 2024.
