Music Director S P Venkatesh Dies At 70 In Chennai

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Veteran music director SP Venkatesh died at his residence in Chennai. The music legend was 70-years-old when he took his last breath. Venkatesh’s funeral will be held tomorrow in Alapakkam.

From classics to melodies, Venkatesh was a versatile musician who began his film career in 1971 as a guitarist, working alongside noted music director Vijayabhaskar, before establishing himself as an assistant music director in Kannada cinema in 1975.

Venkatesh worked as an assistant music director with composers including Raghavan Master and contributed to background scores in Malayalam cinema, dominating the Mollywood for a decade.

Venkatesh made his debut as an independent music director in 1981 with the Telugu film Prema Yuddham.

The music director’s works had made huge impacts in Malayalam audiences especially the songs and background scores in Thampi Kannanthanam’s Rajavinte Makan. 

Venkatesh became one of the most prominent composers in Malayalam cinema, known for seamlessly blending musical richness with literary depth while retaining popular appeal throughout the 1990s.
