Veteran Delhi fast bowler Ishant Sharma has made himself unavailable for Ranji Trophy 2024-25 selection while Mayank Yadav has been named in the 84-man probable list.
His decision indicates an end of the road in red-ball cricket after he featured in only two matches of the prestigious tournament, last season. The fast bowler was unavailable for the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) but will be available for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament which is set to be held before the IPL auctions.
“Ishant has made it clear that he is not available for the red-ball matches, but might turn up for the white-ball tournaments Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy,” said a DDCA official.
Meanwhile, the Lucknow Super Giants speedster is likely to feature in the first two matches for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. He has been out of action for nearly four months and is set to make a comeback in competitive cricket.
Yadav was not picked up in the Duleep Trophy and even pulled out from the inaugural edition of the DPL. He is, however, close on gaining full fitness.
“Mayank is bowling 15 overs per day every day at the nets in NCA and he is targeting Delhi’s first Ranji Trophy match as his comeback,” Negi was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
