Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered his praise on Indian women wrestlers after they managed to win an “unparalleled” medal tally in the U-20 World Championships being held at Amman, Jordan. PM Modi called the achievement as “monumental triumph”. The Indian contingent has managed to win seven medals which included three gold medals.

“A monumental triumph for Indian Women Wrestlers! Our team has won the Women Wrestling team title at the 2023 U-20 World Championships, delivering an unparalleled performance with 7 medals, of which 3 are Golds,” PM Modi said in an X post.

The Prime Minister mentioned grappler Antim for her exceptional performance in the meet.

“Among the memorable performances was by Antim for retaining her title becoming the first ever to win it twice! This glorious win stands as an embodiment of the unwavering commitment, sheer determination and exceptional talent of our emerging wrestlers,” he added.

Antim Panghal, the 19-year old from Haryana”s Hisar, created history by becoming the first and only Indian Woman Wrestler to win back-to-back U20 World Titles in the 53kg category. The Indian women wrestling team also won team title at a World Championships for the first time.

With her determination combined of agility and strength, she defeated her Ukranian rival Mariia Yefremova and achieved an unbeatable 4-0 win at the event in Amman in Jordan, on Friday.

“I’m elated that I’m the first Indian woman to win Gold twice in U20 World Wrestling Championship…It was difficult and during practices, we had to go to different places…Sir has told me to perform well, when everybody is doing well then I also need to do well…”, said Ms Panghal in an interview with ANI.
