Netizens Slam Narendra Modi Stadium Crowd As "Graceless And Abominable"

For the Indian cricket fanatics, yesterday ended with a doleful note. India lost to Australia. Australia won the title for the sixth time and India lost it once again. Two more incidents may come forth when talking about the ODI World Cup 2023, held at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

A pro-Palestine intruder on the pitch, catching the crowd and Virat Kohli – who was on the pitch – off-guard, and the issue of Kapil Dev, who lifted World Cup for India for first time, talked about how he was not invited for the match.

Rubbing salt to the already wounded hearts of cricket fans, another talk is on the table in connection with yesterday’s game. This time it is the audience at Narendra Modi Stadium. Netizens are irked with the behaviour of the audience at the stadium.

In total, the spectators were a “disappointment”. But what got to the nerves of the netizens was the “disrespect” shown towards the players. The X (formerly twitter) compared Narendra Modi stadium audience with other stadiums like Wankhede, Eden Garden, etc. The silence that fell upon the stadium in whole when the game started slanting towards Australia was also an issue raised by many.

Producer and photographer Atul Kasbekar wrote on X, “the Ahmedabad crowd was rubbish. Need proper fans inside a stadium instead of fly by night pretenders”. He also drew the comparison of Ahmedabad with Wankhede and said, “like the amazing people at Wankhede, proper fans…”

Another user named Vijaylakshmi Nadar said the stadium was “full of Modi bhakts…most probably got free tickets to boost their papa…definitely not cricket fans…they would have been brought there to chant Modi Modi if the team had won…for this reason alone, I am glad Team India lost”.

One user called the crowd “graceless” for booing the Umpire.

Another called out the ‘Indian crowd” to have some “dignity and respect” for the officials and said that there wouldn’t be a game without the officials.

The reason for the ‘booing’ the umpire, Richard Kettleborough was given as him being the reason for India losing.

Some even to an extent of pointing fingers at Home Minister Amit Shah”s son and BCCI having major control over ICC, and the reason why Mr. Kettleborough appeared as an umpire for the game.

Another user called the “abominable” for leaving the stadium without staying for the ceremony.

One of the user called Narendra Modi Stadium an “embarrassing venue”, and added that how “Virat Kohli & Indian team players having to plead to dead silent crowd to get behind team when things aren”t going India”s way against Australia in a World Cup Finals”.
