After two weeks of complete action, including, records that went stumbling, controversies around the cleanliness of the Seine River and athletes, and the spirit of the game in display, the curtains will fall on Paris 2024 during its Closing Ceremony on August 11.
The Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. EDT at the Stade de France, the country’s national stadium, where rugby sevens and track and field events have been hosted.
Thomas Jolly, the Creative Director, who brought Celine Dion to perform Edith Piaf’s classic, L’Hymne à l’Amour halfway up the Eiffel Tower at the Opening Ceremony, has named the Closing Ceremony ‘Records’. Although the list of artists to perform at the Closing Ceremony is still undisclosed, there are rumors that Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise will take up the stage with Beyonce also in talks.
“On 11 August 2024, the Olympic Games will be over, and the Olympic flame will be extinguished,” said Jolly. “That moment will remind us just how precious these Olympic Games are – a unique monument to a shared experience – and therefore fragile.
“The Olympic Games already disappeared after antiquity and were re-founded in France by Pierre De Coubertin. We want to celebrate, but consciously. This moment of celebration will also be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the Olympic Games in our society.”
The performers at the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony will include acrobats, circus artists, dancers, gymnasts and aerial ballet dancers, who will be seen performing atop metal structures around the Olympic rings.
The Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony will continue to follow the traditional parade of flags and athletes, speeches, and a final medal ceremony with the extinguishing of the Olympic flame to mark the end of the quadrennial showpiece event.
