With Heinrich Klaasen and Gerald Coetzee as notable inclusion, South Africa has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Aiming to create a strong impact in the prestigious tournament, a squad led by Aiden Markram was listed.
This will be Markram’s first World Cup assignment since being named as the T20I captain. In the squad, the notable inclusions are Anrich Nortje and Quinton de Kock who were recently excluded from the Cricket South Africa’s central contract list.
The team also includes experienced batters Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller and the promising Tristan Stubbs. Also, the squad features two uncapped T20I players; wicket-keeper batter Ryan Rickelton and fast bowler Ottniel Baartman.
Other notable selections include three front-line spinners; Bjorn Fortuin, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi.
Coach Rob Walter said, “Selecting this group was extremely tough considering the amount of T20 cricket that has been played recently and the form that has been on show. I want to congratulate the two uncapped players, Ryan and Ottniel, on their selection,” reports ICC cricket.
South Africa will begin its campaign on June 3 against Sri Lanka in New York. With a well-balanced squad, the African team is expected to make an impact in the T20 World Cup.
South Africa will play in Group D alongside, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal. The tournament will commence on June 2nd, with the USA taking on Canada in the opening encounter.
The T20 World Cup will be played across multiple venues, with the group stage divided into four groups.
