Record breaking transfer window closed on Friday in which the Premiere League clubs broke record as summer spending hits £2.36bn. The combined outlay of the 20 clubs smashes the previous year record of £1.9bn according to financial services firm Deloitte.

Premiere League clubs have spent £255m on deadline day alone, which is more than double the £120m spent on the final day of last summer”s window.

Tim Bridge, lead partner in Deloitte”s Sports Business Group, said “Nearly three quarters of Premier League clubs (14) spent more this summer than the last, reflecting the increased intensity of competition.There continues to be pressure on clubs to acquire top talent to satisfy their on-pitch objectives, whether that”s qualifying for European competition or simply maintaining their position in the Premier League.”

Arsenal secured their No.1 target , Declan rice for a record fee, while Manchester City made important defensive upgrades, and Paris Saint-Germain built cleverly around Kylian Mbappe. Harry Kane and Kim Min-jae signings strengthened Bayern Munich. While the transfer decisions of Liverpool has to be reanalyzed as they have lost seven first team players in this summer window. Saudia Arabia made some remarkable move in the transfer market signing star players like Neymar  and Karim Benzama.

Another notable event was the rejection of Liverpool player Mohammad Salah. Liverpool has rejected an offer of £100 million which was raised to  £150 million with add-ons. However, sources close to Al Ittihad indicate that they are prepared to pay up to £200 million for the forward. Despite the rejection, the Saudis are expected to continue their pursuit of Salah before the Saudi transfer window closes on September 7.

Deadline Day Deals:

  • The biggest Premiere league deadline day deal was signed by Manchester United for Portugal middle fielder Matheus Nunes from Wolves for £55m, while the Treble winners sold Cole Palmer  to Chelseafor £40m.
  • Manchester United brought in goalkeeper Altey Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.5m, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina, full back Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham and free agent Jonny Evans on a one-year deal.
  • Nottingham Forest were the busiest club, signing seven players including midfielder Ibrahim Sangare  from PSV, winger Callum Hudson-Odoi  from Chelsea and midfielder Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna.
  • Barcelona acquired Portugal players João Félix and João Cancelo on loan while shipping out Ansu Fati and other players.
