Veteran New Zealand commentator Ian Smith puts more life into every moment on the cricket field with his sheer awareness and style of describing the proceedings.
Incidentally, he recently did so to the T20 World Cup 2024 winning catch from Suryakumar Yadav. Smith, who was in the commentary box along with Ravi Shastri and Shaun Pollock, described the game-changing moment in his style.
“Wide. Miller hits it and he gets plenty of it. Does he? No! What a catch! Oh My God! Unbelievable, what I’ve just seen here. Athleticism at its very, very best. Oh, this is quite an incredible moment folks. You won’t believe what you’ve just seen. It is just the best piece of skill I think I’ve ever seen in the game of cricket,” Ian Smith said from the commentary box.

Needing 16 runs to win off the final over, South Africa’s David Miller hit a low full-toss from Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya straight down the ground.
It looked like the ball would cross the long-off for a maximum but Suryakumar appeared from nowhere to complete the catch. The reviews showed that Suryakumar had taken a clean catch and Miller was given out in the most game-changing moment.
Following the match, Suryakumar admitted that at one point it looked like the match was going out of Team India’s hands but he pulled back the match in their favor with the brilliant effort.
