Apple Maps Renames Gulf of Mexico After Trump's Order
Apple Maps has renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on Tuesday, following an order by US President Donald Trump. This change aligns with updates from Google and Microsoft, which have also made the same change.
The renaming process began when Trump issued a directive to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

The US Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) officially updated the name change on maps late Sunday. As a result, Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Microsoft’s Bing Maps have all reflected the change.
According to Google, people in the US will see the Gulf of America, while people in Mexico will still see the Gulf of Mexico.
The rest of the users will be able to see both names. The changes made on Apple Maps will first be rolled out to US users and then globally, reported Bloomberg.
This follows Google’s announcement from last month, in which the tech giant said that it would make the name change once it was updated in the official listing. Microsoft has also made the changes in the name on its Bing maps.
Also, Trump had first suggested renaming the Gulf during his inaugural press conference as the 47th President of the United States. He argued that the new name better reflects America’s historical and territorial legacy.

In addition to the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska’s Denali will also be renamed Mount McKinley, as per Trump’s order. Former President Barack Obama had first changed the mountain’s name in 2015.
However, the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America has sparked a debate about the impact of Trump’s directives on the country’s geographical identity.

It will always be the Gulf of Mexico.
Time to dump Apple Maps and Google, too.

While some support the change, others have criticised it as an attempt to alter the country’s history and cultural heritage. Regardless of the debate, the change is now reflected on major mapping platforms, including Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Bing Maps.
