The share of factories in rural areas rose from 37 percent in FY10 to 42 percent in FY20.The female labour force participation has been on the rise in rural areas, increasing from 18.2 percent to 27.7 percent during FY18-21. While urban areas saw a marginal increase from 15.9 percent in FY18 to 28.6 percent in FY21.
Despite these positive changes, the rural market still lags in terms of consumer durables penetration, particularly for products like washing machines and refrigerators. However, ongoing structural changes such as rural electrification and increased female workforce participation are expected to reduce this gap in the future.
