Google CEO Informs Employees About Potential Job Cut This Year

The Alphabet-owned Google is likely to lay off more employees this year. The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai told employees to expect more job cuts, Reuters reported citing an internal memo.

There has also been news last week that the company is going to lay off hundreds of its employees. It was learnt that the tech giant is resorting to Artificial Intelligence more in its attempt to cut cost and increase efficiency. Through its automation drive, Google has been reducing the company”s workforce considerably, The company had last year said it is  introducing innovative methods powered by AI in its ad sale unit leading to the potential firing of 30,000 employees in the future.

In its latest memo, Google’s CEO said that the layoff was focused on eliminating layers to simplify execution and to ease execution and get more speed and efficiency in some areas, as per the report.

The memo also said that the company has ambitious goals, and will be investing in its big priorities this year. “These role eliminations are not at the scale of last year”s reductions, and will not touch every team,” Sundar Pichai informed all employees in the memo. According to the report, a Google representative has confirmed that the company sent an email to all employees regarding the job cut.

However, as the fear of AI replacing human workers rises, such moves by tech giants like Google show that there will be more job cuts in the future, as companies are increasingly looking to adopt AI in every field.
