The tech giant Apple launched the iOS 18.2 beta phase, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 updates on Wednesday introducing spectacular AI-powered features. While iOS 18.1 arrived last week the stable version of iOS 18.2 was rumoured to arrive in December 2024. The first developer beta brings great AI updates including creating custom emojis with Genmoji and generating images using Image Playground. Additionally, AI writing capabilities have been enhanced and the main attraction is the integration with ChatGPT. The Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16 camera searches is also available.

Let’s get acquainted with the new iOS 18.2 beta version:

  • The iOS 18.2 beta introduces several Apple Intelligence features, such as Siri ChatGPT which is now optional, allowing for detailed information and image generation.
  • Visual Intelligence identifies objects and locations on iPhone 16.
  • Genmoji enables exclusive emoji creation for iOS 18.2 users.
  • Writing Tools have expanded tone and content options
  • Image Playground allows users to create stylised images.
  • A Volume Limit option has been added to control audio playback
  • Satellite connectivity control has been removed. The Adaptive Audio icon has been redesigned for simplicity.

Furthermore, the iOS 18.2 beta includes updates to the Mail app, such as categories for important emails, larger images for contacts and businesses and consolidated email views. The Control Center update introduces a Type to Siri quick access option, streamlining interactions. Adding to that, Apple has also expanded language support for Apple Intelligence to English users in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK via iOS 18.2 update.

The users will need to opt-in to both Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT individually to access these features. This can be done during the setup process or later in settings. Also, users won’t require a ChatGPT account or a standalone app to use these features. The service will serve two primary functions: supplementing Siri’s knowledge base and generating text within Writing Tools. It was said that certain questions will prompt Siri to ask users if they want to access ChatGPT when enabled such as recipes and travel planning. After updating, users can also directly ask Siri to “ask ChatGPT.” However, without a premium account, users will have limited queries and everyone will have access to OpenAI’s models, including GPT-4.
