What OpenAI Has Said
OpenAI acknowledged the outage and worked swiftly to address the issue. By 10:50 PM IST, the company had implemented a mitigation, leading to visible improvements in the ChatGPT interface and API services.

Full recovery of the API was confirmed by 1:04 AM IST on June 11. However, voice mode continued to experience elevated error rates at that time. The OpenAI status page was updated to a “monitoring” state, indicating ongoing oversight of all services.

The outage had a global impact, affecting users regardless of their subscription status. Reports from Downdetector showed a sharp spike in error reports starting around 2:45 PM IST, with more than 1,100 users reporting problems by 3:02 PM IST.

Approximately 93% of complaints were specifically tied to ChatGPT, with the remaining issues attributed to the OpenAI app (7%) and login-related difficulties (1%). Users across web browsers, mobile apps, and those relying on GPT API integrations experienced disruptions.
While no data loss was officially acknowledged, user reports indicated session failures and delayed response generation during the downtime. The outage also affected other OpenAI services, including the Sora text-to-video AI tool and the GPT API. The company has not provided a specific technical explanation for the outage, but has stated that the issue was identified and is being closely monitored.
