OpenAI Launches ‘ChatGPT Go’, Its Most Affordable AI Subscription In India
OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence company and creator of ChatGPT, has announced the launch of its most affordable subscription tier yet in India.
The new plan, called ChatGPT Go, is priced at ₹399 per month (approximately $4.57) and is designed exclusively for Indian users, highlighting the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
We just launched ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier that gives users in India more access to our most popular features: 10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared with our free tier. All for Rs. 399. 🇮🇳

The ChatGPT Go plan offers users ten times more messages and image generations compared to the free version, along with significantly faster response times.
This makes it especially attractive to students, freelancers, and everyday internet users who want to go beyond the limitations of the free model but cannot afford the higher subscription costs.
OpenAI has clarified that usage limits expand further with its higher-end tiers, but the Go plan marks the most accessible entry point into the paid ecosystem.
India is OpenAI’s second-largest user market after the United States, and according to CEO Sam Altman, it is poised to soon overtake the U.S. as the biggest base of ChatGPT users worldwide.

With nearly one billion internet users and a price-sensitive population, India has long been a testing ground for global technology companies seeking mass adoption.
By launching an India-only low-cost subscription, OpenAI is following the footsteps of Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube, which all introduced localised pricing to appeal to Indian consumers.
Alongside the newly introduced Go plan, OpenAI continues to offer ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999 per month and its top-tier ChatGPT Pro at ₹19,900 per month.
These options cater to power users, enterprises, and professionals requiring advanced capabilities, while the Go tier is aimed at expanding access at the entry level.

The rollout also aligns with Altman’s recent meetings with India’s IT leadership, during which discussions focused on developing a low-cost AI ecosystem and enhancing accessibility to artificial intelligence tools.
The launch comes just weeks after OpenAI introduced GPT-5, its latest and most powerful multimodal model, which supports a range of tasks across text, code, and images with improved efficiency and multilingual compatibility, including Indian languages.
Most users should like GPT-5 better soon; the change is rolling out over the next day.
The real solution here remains letting users customize ChatGPT’s style much more. We are working that! https://t.co/RfiYJ8AkEO
