Open AI on Thursday announced its latest AI model GPT-5, with the tagline “Our smartest, fastest, and most useful model yet”. While unveiling the new version at an event, the company says that it offers significant advancements particularly in the field of writing, coding and health care.

OpenAI co-founder and chief executive Sam Altman praised that the new model is better than its earlier versions.

“GPT-5 is the first time that it really feels like talking to an expert in any topic, like a PhD-level expert,” Altman said in a briefing ahead of Thursday’s launch.

He held the new language mode is a significant leap from GPT-4 and a remarkable step towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

During the launch, Altman also held that India could soon become its largest market globally.

“India is our second-largest market in the world after the US, and it may well become our largest market. It’s incredibly fast-growing, but what users are doing with AI, what citizens of India are doing with AI, is really quite remarkable,” Open AI CEO said.

GPT-5 is available to everyone, including its free users. The model comes in three variations – gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, and gpt-5-nano. This variations offer varied experience.

With the launch of its AI chatbot ChatGPT in 2022, Open AI has emerged as a major player in the technology world. As per the reports, the company expected to hit 700 million weekly active users on ChatGPT this week.

Meanwhile, there are reports that during the live demonstration of GPT-5, OpenAI presented graphs that contained significant errors, which were quickly pointed out by users.
