Sony has announced a special collection to celebrate 30 years of PlayStation (video gaming brand) on Friday which is considered a limited edition in the series. This collection honours the beginning of PlayStation’s journey and its evolution over three decades celebrating the original PlayStation’s launch in Japan in December 1994. The limited-edition collection includes a PS5 Pro bundle with only 12,300 units available worldwide.

This bundle features a grey PS5 Pro console with 2TB storage matching DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, a charging station, and other accessories bringing 90s retro style to 2024. Each unit will have a unique number etched on it. Additionally, the collection includes a PS5 Slim Digital Edition bundle and standalone versions of the DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, and PlayStation Portal remote player.

All items in the collection feature the classic grey colour scheme and multicoloured PlayStation logo reminiscent of the 1994 console. The collection also includes special collector’s items like PlayStation-themed cable ties, stickers, and a limited-edition poster. The original PlayStation controller cable design has been incorporated into the new accessories.

Sony announced the pre-orders for the collection start on September 26 exclusively on PlayStation Direct. Some items will later be available at other retailers and the entire collection launches on November 21. The standard PS5 Pro is expected to cost around Rs 62,990 in India, while the limited-edition PS5 Pro bundle is likely to be priced higher which is potentially above Rs 80,000.

According to Hideaki Nishino, CEO of PlayStation’s platform business group, the collection aims to appeal to longtime fans nostalgic for the console’s early days. The anniversary collection joins Sony’s holiday lineup alongside the recently announced PS5 Pro aiming to drive sales and excitement around the PS5 as it enters its fourth year in the market.
