The European Commission has announced the finalists for the 2024 Access City Award, which will be announced on December 1. The finalists are Tübingen, Łódź, Saint-Quentin, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, and South Dublin County.
The Access City Award is a prize awarded to Europe”s most accessible cities for persons with disabilities. EU cities with a population over 50,000 are eligible to compete for the award. The selection process is based on criteria that primarily focus on accessible spaces, both physical and virtual. This includes ensuring that persons with disabilities have easy access to transportation, shops, parks, websites, and so on.

Finalist cities must ensure:
- Easy access to information
- Easy access to buses, trams, and metros
- Disability-friendly parks and playgrounds
- Easy access to buildings such as libraries, sports halls, and city halls
The winner and runners-up will receive monetary prizes:
- 1st place: EUR 150,000
- 2nd place: EUR 120,000
- 3rd place: EUR 80,000
There will also be a special mention award based on sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusiveness. The selection process will measure the cities” compliance with the criteria.
