Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi called the Wayanad Landslides a “huge tragedy.” The former Wayanad MP emphasised that it is essential to support the people of the tragedy-stricken region and provide them with “as much assistance as possible.”
The fatalities from one of the worst-hit landslides in Kerala have been rising each time. According to the latest reports, more than 270 have been dead so far, while many are still under the mud. The rescue efforts are going on, and the personnel are saving many lives.

However, while speaking at the parliament, Rahul Gandhi also demanded the government help the people of Wayanad during these challenging times. “This is the second time this tragedy has occurred; it happened five years ago, and it is clear that this area has an ecological issue,” the Congress leader highlighted, adding that the issue should be investigated and whatever high-tech solutions are available should be implemented.
It is reported that the Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi is likely to visit Wayanad on Thursday, They had earlier scheduled their trip to the disaster-hit region but was forced to put off when authorities informed them of the potential risk of landing during heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
