A sevens football match held in Kasaragod, Kerala, on 24 December 2024, has sparked controversy on social media. The game, played between Voice of Cherumba and FC Jalis Melparamba, gained attention after fans of Voice of Cherumba displayed a tifo reading “Pray for Palestine” and waved Palestinian flags.
Right-wing social media accounts have shared videos from the match, criticising the display and using it to push propaganda against Kerala. One user on X commented, “Kasaragod lost case,” suggesting disdain for the region’s perceived political leanings.
In contrast, others questioned the backlash, citing India’s longstanding support for Palestine. “What is the problem?” asked one user, pointing out India’s historic diplomatic stance.
