New Delhi: While reacting to BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s remark on her father, Delhi chief minister Atishi broke down during a press conference on Monday.  The chief minister, noting her father’s age and health, called Bidhuri’s statement part of the dirty politics. The AAP leader also wondered if her rival BJP candidate in Kalkaji could abuse an old man for the sake of elections.

During his election campaign, the BJP leader had said that Atishi had changed her father. “Kejriwal swore over his children not to go with the corrupt Congress, Marlena (surname used earlier by Atishi) changed father. Earlier she was Marlena, now she has become Singh. This is their character,” he had said on Sunday during his campaign ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February.

Responding to the BJP leader, the Delhi chief minister, while extremely emotional, said that she wanted to tell Ramesh Bidhuri that her father had been a teacher throughout his life and that he had taught thousands of children from poor and lower-income families.

“Now he is 80 years old…now he is really ill that he can’t even walk without help,” Atishi said, asking the BJP leader if he could abuse an old man for the sake of elections, The chief minister further added that she never thought that the country’s politics “could stoop so low.”

Sharing the press conference, the AAP X handle wrote that these tears of “Delhi’s woman chief minister will cost BJP heavily”

“BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri has insulted the people of Delhi by abusing Atishi ji and her father. Bidhuri ji should ask for votes on the basis of his work, why is he asking for votes by abusing Atishi ji’s elderly father,” the AAP wrote on X.

The BJP leader had also courted massive controversy on Sunday after making objectional statement against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, stating that he could make roads in Delhi like the Wayanad MP’s cheeks.
