In a milestone move, the UAE has decided to rename Abu Dhabi International Airport as Zayed International Airport. The order, issued by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, comes ahead of the inauguration of the new Terminal A, which opens to travelers on Wednesday, November 1. The new name will take effect on February 9, 2024.
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed visited Abu Dhabi International Airport”s Terminal A ahead of its opening, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
According to Sheikh Khaled, the UAE is obligated to enrich the airport”s infrastructure. With its advanced facilities, Terminal A will help enhance tourism, trade, and growth.
Terminal A is equipped with the world”s first all-nine biometric airport touchpoints, making biometric solutions available in key areas such as self-service bag drops, immigration eGates, and boarding gates. This facility will streamline the service from curb to gate, improving passenger experience.
Once fully operational, facial recognition technology will be installed to screen passengers and limit waiting times.
Other high-tech facilities include an advanced baggage handling system capable of processing up to 19,200 bags per hour and 65 parking stands connecting aircraft to allocated boarding gates. With these features, Terminal A will deliver a seamless passenger experience with a hassle-free journey.
