To ensure a smooth journey for the travellers, the Dubai International Airport has come up with a major upgrade in the security system, which is to be installed across all terminals. The Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) has officially awarded a contract to Smiths Detection to deploy state-of-the-art checkpoint scanners throughout Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

With the new system onboard, the passengers will no longer have to remove their electronic items like laptops or liquids from their carry-on bags at the security checkpoint. These scanners use high-resolution 3D imaging, allowing security personnel to get a detailed look inside travellers’ bags without them having to unpack. This technology is brought to speed up the security process and reduce queues, making the journey more convenient.

The system is equipped with automatic object identification and intelligent lane management, combined with automated tray return systems.

The rollout, starting soon, will see the installation of advanced HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S computed tomography (CT) scanners.

As Dubai International Airport continues to break records as the world’s busiest airport for international travel, it handles millions of passengers each month throughout the year. Moreover, this project is also part of Dubai’s broader strategy for intelligent airport transformation, especially ahead of Dubai Airport’s eventual transition to a $35 billion mega-hub at Al Maktoum International or Dubai World Central (DWC) by the end of the decade.
