In an attempt to integrate AI in all sectors, UAE has now decided to incorporate the tool as part of the school curriculum. The UAE Cabinet had decided to add AI as a core subject from kindergarten to 12th grade, starting from the upcoming academic year.
This new initiative was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, through his X account. He, in his post, had highlighted that it is part of the country’s long-term vision to equip future generations for a rapidly evolving world.

“As part of the UAE’s long-term plans to prepare future generations for a different future, a new world, and advanced skills, the UAE government today approved the final curriculum to introduce ‘Artificial Intelligence’ as a subject across all stages of government education in the UAE, from kindergarten to grade 12, starting from the next academic year,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
The curriculum will focus on seven key areas:
-
Data and algorithms
-
Software applications
-
Ethical awareness in AI
-
Real-world AI applications
-
AI-driven innovation and project design
-
AI policies
-
Social engagement
Moreover, the modules are tailored to be age-appropriate and will be incorporated into existing school timetables without requiring any extra hours. For the proper incorporation of the subject, the ministry will provide teachers with comprehensive resources, including lesson plans, templates, and engaging activities.
However, there is no announcement has yet come on whether private schools, which are regulated separately, will be instructed to roll out AI classes, reports Gulf News.

The AI curriculum will mainly span across seven key areas: foundational concepts, data and algorithms, software use, ethical awareness, real-world applications, innovation and project design, and policies and community engagement. The course, which is tailored for each group, will have visual and interactive activities to help four-year-old’s explore AI through play.
