Missile Fired From Yemen Hits Israel’s Ben Gurion airport; 3 Injured

Tel Aviv, Israel: Amid Israel’s intensified aggression in Gaza, a missile launched from Yemen has hit Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Sunday. The ballistic missile caused damage to some structures, and forced temporary halt to the air traffic, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

At least three people have been slightly injured in the incident. One of the busiest airports in Israel, the attack has caused panic among people, who were heard screaming when smoke emerged in the area. Following the incident, all entrances to it were briefly closed, and train movements leading to the site were also stopped. Several flights have been redirected. An Air India flight from Delhi bound for Tel Aviv was also diverted to Abu Dhabi.

The Israeli defense system failed to shoot down the projectile despite several attempts to intercept it. The military said that an investigation is underway to probe the security lapse. Yemen’s Houthi militia has claimed responsibility for the attack.

People rushed to shelters in large numbers as sirens blared across central Israel when the ballistic missile was fired from Yemen. The missiles’ debris was seen scattered on adjacent roads.

Notably, the missile from Yemen comes at a time when the United States and the United Kingdom carry out extensive bombardment across Yemen, even in the wee hours of Sunday. US warplanes launched 10 raids on the al-Hazm district of the al-Jawf governorate, and three attacks on the Marib governorate, as per a report by Al Jazeera.

Since Israel resumed its offensive in Gaza after violating the ceasefire agreement recently, nearly 200 Palestinian people have been killed, taking the total fatalities to reach 50,000. Additionally, as per a recent report, more than 50 Palestinians have been starved to death after Israel recently blocked aid to the war-ravaged strip.

Since the start of the war, the Houthis have declared solidarity with the Palestinians, and attacked ships belonging to Israel and its backers such as the United States, demanding an end to the atrocities in Gaza.
