The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held Israel “fully responsible for the heinous attack”, that assassinated Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31st. The organisation requested “immediate and effective intervention” by the UN Security Council for maintaining international peace and security.
In a statement released after the extraordinary meeting in Jeddah, the organisation of Muslim countries termed Israel’s action, a “flagrant violation of international laws, the UN Charter, and a serious infringement of the sovereignty, and territorial integrity” of Iran.
The meeting was called to discuss the “ongoing crimes” by Israel against the Palestinian People and its breaching on the sovereignty of Iran.
In the statement, OIC condemned “continued war crimes, aggression and genocide committed by Israel, the illegal occupying power, in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including the City of Al-Quds Ash-Sharif.

OIC “strongly condemns the assassination of Mr. Ismail Haniyeh, former Palestinian Prime Minister, while he was in Tehran, capital city of Iran, and holds Israel, the illegal occupying power, fully responsible for this heinous attack, which constitutes a crime of aggression, a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter and a serious infringement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran,”, read the statement.
The statement that was released after the meeting also added that the all member states of OIC should stand in solidarity against the illegal acts by the Israeli occupying power by taking the necessary diplomatic, legal and political measures to reverse the escalation in the region.
It also urged all States to refrain from engaging in any kind of assistance or cooperation with Israel and said that it “would prolong Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territory, grant it impunity, and embolden it to continue its crimes and flagrant violations of international law and relevant UN resolutions.”

OIC also urged the International Criminal Court to expedite the investigation into the war crimes and crimes “committed” by Israel against the Palestinian people.
The West is anticipating a fierce regional war in West Asia. With the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, the already fragile peace in the region exponentially went down, with Iran vowing strong ‘revenge’. Israel’s allies from West, including US, which anticipates how and when Iran will retaliate for the Haniye’s assassination allegedly by Israel’s Mossad.
Spokesperson of Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanaani, said Tehran is not looking to escalate regional tensions but believe in its need to punish Israel to curb further instability. “Iran seeks to establish stability in the region, but this will only come with punishing the aggressor and creating deterrence against the adventurism of the Zionist regime (Israel),” said Kanaani, as quoted by Reuters. He further added that an attack against Israel is inevitable.
