Why Iran Is Delaying The Anticipated Attack On Israel?

What Is The Delay In Iran's Response To Israel's Attack?

The West is anticipating a fierce regional war in West Asia. With the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, the already fragile peace in the region exponentially went down, with Iran vowing strong ‘revenge’. Israel’s allies from West, including US, anticipate how and when Iran will retaliate for the Haniye’s assassination allegedly by Israel’s Mossad.

Iran is stalling the attack, adding to the anticipations and curiosity on how Tehran and Hezbollah will tally scores with Tel Aviv.

Reports suggest that Iran is reconsidering its attack on Israel, as Tehran do not appreciate the possibility of dragging the country to an all-out war.

Spokesperson of Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanaani, said Tehran is not looking to escalate regional tensions but believe in its need to punish Israel to curb further instability. “Iran seeks to establish stability in the region, but this will only come with punishing the aggressor and creating deterrence against the adventurism of the Zionist regime (Israel),” said Kanaani, as quoted by Reuters. He further added that an attack against Israel is inevitable.

Reportedly, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which include more than 50 Muslim nations, will meet at the request of Iran. Tehran will seek support from fellow Muslim nations to support Iran’s right to respond.

During the similar situation earlier this year, Iran took its time to respond. When Israel killed one of its Commander by bombing its consulate in Syria, Iran responded after two weeks. After almost 15 days of the attack, Iran unleashed a barrage of some 300 missiles into Israel.

The humiliation and wound caused by the assassination of Haniyeh is said to graver than the attack on its consulate in Syria. So the retaliation is also expected to be huge.

The volatile situation in the region has caused ripples on global economy also. According to Iran Observer, global stock market went plunged with over $2.9 trillion loss. The figure also include $2 trillion loss on the US stock market, as NASDAQ went down over 500 points on August 5th, the worst loss since 2022, said media report. Several countries cancelled flights to Lebanon and other parts of region in fear of the looming regional war.

Reportedly, President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has told Iran to avoid civilian casualties in its retaliation to attack on Israel. There are reports that Russia is aiding Iran with munitions, and Tehran’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei requested for advanced air defence from Russia. There are also report that Iran has purchased the ultra-long-ranged electronic warfare system named Murmansk-BN from Russia.
