UAE Warns Of Privacy Risks And Data Misuse In AI Photo Apps

The AI-powered application transforming into trending Ghibli images has now emerged as a primary concern regarding the privacy of the users. And many of the tech experts have come forward disclosing the danger hidden behind the new trend.

As part of securing the privacy of individuals in UAE, the country’s cybersecurity officials had given warning of data misuse, and deeper social implications hidden behind this whimsical aesthetics.

Speaking to Gulf News, Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, urged the urgent need for personal data protection in an era of rapidly advancing technology. He cautioned that engaging with unofficial or unverified applications may result in account breaches or data leaks. “Sharing personal photos with untrusted sources can open the door to exploitation,” he said.

Media and legal professionals have also echoed the alarm in the new development. Emirati journalist and UAE Journalists Association member Adel Al-Rashed said that while AI-generated content offers exciting creative possibilities, there are significant risks if misused. And he had encouraged to use paid versions of the platforms like ChatGPT — such as the pro-versions of it.

Meanwhile, the Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC) returns to its 3rd annual edition, the participants will get a unique opportunity to meet Japan’s prestigious Studio Ghibli — celebrated worldwide for Spirited Away and Tales from Earthsea. The event is organised by Sharjah Book Authority under the supervision of Khoula Al Mujaini, Executive Director of the Sharjah Animation Conference, in collaboration with Pietro Pinettie, the conference’s Artistic Director. The exhibition is slated to take place from May 1 to 4 at Expo Centre Sharjah. The event is said to be designed extensively for animation enthusiasts, students, artists and the broader community.
