On a social media post, senior government official wrote: “This is the right way to clean the world of this filth. No more imaginary peace/surrender agreements. No more mercy. The iron hand that will strike them is the one that will bring peace and a little comfort and strengthen our ability to live in peace with those who desire peace. Haniyeh’s death makes the world a little better.”

Hamas leadership and Iran state media has said political chief of the Gaza based Palestinian group Ismail Haniyeh has been assassinated in an attack in Iran.

The confirmation from Hamas came after the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) issued statement about the ‘martyrdom’ of the leader. The assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran is a “cowardly act that will not go unpunished”, Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV cited senior Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouk as saying.
