Israeli Strikes Kill Nine In Gaza Amid Ceasefire Dispute

Tensions in Gaza have flared once again, with Israel launching new airstrikes on Tuesday, less than three weeks after a ceasefire came into effect. The renewed violence marks a setback to the fragile truce that had temporarily paused months of bloodshed in the region.

According to local officials, nine people were killed in the latest strikes, including four women, three men, and two children. The Hamas-run Gaza Civil Defence agency confirmed the casualties, while the Israeli military has not yet issued an official response.

His office said a coffin handed over by Hamas earlier this week contained the remains of Ofir Tzarfati — a hostage whose body had already been recovered by Israeli forces in 2023 — and not an additional deceased hostage as previously believed.

Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire terms and announced a delay in the planned transfer of another dead hostage, citing “violations” by Israel. The move has further strained the already fragile agreement.

The United States, which played a central role in brokering the ceasefire, insists the deal remains in place. However, U.S. Vice-President JD Vance acknowledged the precarious nature of the truce, admitting that “little skirmishes” were expected even as broader calm is maintained.

Since the ceasefire began earlier this month, sporadic exchanges and limited strikes have continued, underscoring the deep mistrust between the two sides.
